How to Block Websites

To block websites on your home computer without investing in expensive software, here’s the trick (for Windows PCs):
Step 1: Click the Start button and select Run. Now type the following text in that Run box:
notepad c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Step 2: You will see a new notepad window on your screen containing some cryptic information. Don’t panic. Just go to the last line of the file, hit the enter key and type the following:
127.0.0.1 orkut.com
127.0.0.1 facebook.com
127.0.0.1 myspace.com
Save the file and exit. That’s it. None of the above sites will now open on your computer.
You can block as many websites as you like with the above technique. If you want to remove the ban later, open the same file as mentioned in Step 1 and delete the above lines.
Pretty simple...

Clarification on Vodafone Tax Issue

A news report has appeared in the Financial Express, Delhi edition, 27th April, 2012 captioned “I-T didn’t warn Vodafone of tax burden or dispute deal format”. In this regard, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has issued the following clarification:-

In this connection, it may be noted that the first notice in the transaction relating to sale of 66.9848% stake of Hutchison Essar Ltd. (HEL) was issued on 15th March, 2007 under section 133(6) of the Income-tax Act, by the Additional Director of Income Tax (International Taxation), Mumbai to HEL in which it was asked to submit certain details regarding the transaction including shareholders agreements and memorandum of understanding between Hutchison Telecommunications International Ltd. and Vodafone Group dated 11th February, 2007. In the said notice, it has been clearly mentioned that as per information available (from Press Releases of the parties concerned), Vodafone International Holdings BV proposes to acquire the entire issued share capital of CGP Investments (Holdings) Ltd., a company incorporated in Cayman Islands indirectly from HTIL and the full details of the transaction was sought.

When the Indian company showed its inability to submit the details, another notice was issued on 23rd March, 2007 in which, after quoting the Press releases from HTIL and Vodafone, it was mentioned that HTIL/Hutchison Group had made substantial gains from their investment in HEL. It was clearly mentioned that the capital gains are chargeable to tax in India. It was further mentioned that if in case, parties to the transaction proposes to advance any other view, they are at liberty to approach the Assessing Officer. It was explained that the payer (Vodafone Group) as well as the payee (Hutchison Telecom Group) can make an application to the Assessing Officer under sections 195(2) and 197 of the Income-tax Act, 1961, respectively for determining the exact tax liability resulting from the above-mentioned transaction.

This advisory of the tax department was conveyed to the parties concerned, that is, to Vodafone Group and to HTIL. This has been confirmed by HEL in writing through their letter dated 5th April, 2007. It has been mentioned by HEL in the said letter that “we have provided copies of this letter to the concerned parties” and that this has been done solely on the request of the tax department and without assuming any responsibility or liability whatsoever for any actions and transactions of the two non-resident entities.

HEL had its principal office at Mumbai but was assessed to tax at Chandigarh. The Assessing Officer at Chandigarh, on 28th March, 2007, had written two letters to HEL, one of which was addressed to Vodafone UK in which attention of provisions of section 195 was drawn. Replies to the two letters were provided on 1st April, 2007 in which it has been stated that the letter addressed to Vodafone UK is being returned. These correspondences had no relationship with the enquiry conducted at International Taxation Directorate, Mumbai, which had the jurisdiction over the said transaction.

The facts stated as above indicate that while the communication sent by Chandigarh tax office was not served on Vodafone UK and thus has no relevance, the notice sent by Mumbai International Taxation Directorate was confirmed by HEL, India, to have been served on both HTIL and Vodafone.

Thus, Vodafone cannot say that it had received no communication from the tax department, about the chargeability of the transaction to tax in India. Further, it chose to ignore the advice, received before the conclusion of the transaction, that Vodafone or HTIL should approach the Assessing Officer under sections 195/197 of the Income-tax Act, 1961, for determining the exact tax liability in India.

It is clarified that the above communications are part of the Court records and are thus in the public domain.

It’s Easier to Blame the Government than to Correct Yourself.

Blaming the government for everything and anything has been an old age fashion in India. Thanks to Democracy rights of people but what about responsibilities. We have become habituated to criticize the government for every other problem whether corruption, dirty roads, dry taps, power failure. Its we who have a hand in most of the problems we face in our daily life.

Every one or the other is criticizing the government for the price hike in petroleum, and corruption, blocked drains. Its the most easy to criticize the government and you also get support from most of the people as they also not interested in accepting the responsibility.

You says your roads are dirty.Who littered ? Your MP's ??

You says your Bus terminal are stinking.. how many M La's or MP's have been caught peeing on road??

How many of you don't misuse water and power??

Agreed that there are few corrupt people in government who are responsible for many issues in our daily life. But we are the one who are choosing them year after year.

The problem is that you expect the government to clean your shit.

And the new issue.. the hike in petrol prices in country.Everyone is criticizing  the  government. Tell me how many government of the world regulate the prices of crude oil  products.Crude oil product is decontrolled item and market forces and other economy items determine its prices.

Every time dollar cost a rupee more, government has to add Rupee 8000 crore to fuel subsidy bill. That means Rupee 30000 crore + burden on government because of falling rupee against US dollar.

I must request government to introduce Economics subject in school for everyone so that everyone know about what economics is,instead of everyone pretending that they are 'economist'. Handling finance is not a child's play. Most of you must be thinking that i am the supporter of UPA government, but i must clarify that i am not the supporter of any political party, but we should not blame the government for all the problems.

You need to understand, that the government and you, both have certain limitations.

So, next time, when you feel tempted to criticize the government. Stop and think. Have you taken care of your civic responsibilities today? Before you blame the government, you need to see if you have taken care of your responsibilities or not.

Act Responsibly

Thanks to God, blogs haven’t yet been blocked, but a Delhi High Court asked other internet firms including Facebook, Google and YouTube to look at China and have stringent checks on the content on internet.

I wonder whether phone companies could be sued if someone sends obscene message. I think we can’t sue gravity if you fall on ground and hurt your nose. Am I right?

Where countries in north are using social media to bring in democracy, a democratic country like India is trying to restrict it… This is not done...
I would rather believe in self-regulation by the user .When government gives you freedom ... one should respect the democracy and must not misuse it.

I don’t want India to become like China, and should think of good things which the internet has contributed to society. As a matter of fact, China has most sophisticated web filters in the world and network in constantly censored.

Did You Know …?

  • ·         India ranks second best in Asia after South Korea in online freedom.

  • ·         Web Freedom

Being a commerce student, I must look its impact on corporate sector.
For a corporate sector social media is now the barometer of customer satisfaction level. These days company heavily uses the social networking platform.

What I feel is we should act responsibly to avoid government interference. The only kind of censorship that can work on the net is self-imposed.

Let’s Celebrate Earth Hour !!!

Let’s Celebrate Earth Hour !!!

Make one good habit and make our home beautiful….
That is our Earth……

Like every year this year too Earth Hour is going to be celebrated on the last Saturday of March. This year it will be celebrated on Saturday 31st March, 2012.
As environment conscious citizens we are all aware of an important environment concern-Global Warming, which is leading the world towards Climate Change. Earth Hour is a WWF initiative symbolising the collective power of individuals, businesses and Governments to reduce our impact on this planet. Launched in 2007 in Australia, Earth Hour is the largest Environment Campaign grown to millions of people in over 5000 cities across 135 countries.

Earth Hour’s simple message to the people around the globe is to switch off their lights not only for an hour - from 8.30 pm - 9.30pm , but go beyond the hour and make long-term changes to their energy usage.

I urge each one of you to sustain your commitment and responsible actions not for an hour but to go beyond the hour and commit to a personal action to benefit the environment and be a part of the solution.

As informed citizens, let us make this campaign successful by switching off our lights at least for an hour from 8.30 pm - 9.30 pm on Saturday 31st March, 2012.

Let us heal the planet together.

GOD IS GREAT:Short story: Shared(Internet)

Me: God, can I ask You a question?

God: Sure

Me: Promise You won't get mad
... ... ... ...
God: I promise

Me: Why did You let so much stuff happen to me today?

God: What do u mean?

Me: Well, I woke up late

God: Yes

Me: My car took forever to start

God: Okay

Me: at lunch they made my sandwich wrong & I had to wait

God: Huummm

Me: On the way home, my phone went DEAD, just as I picked up a call

God: All right

Me: And on top of it all off, when I got home ~I just want to soak my feet in my new foot massager & relax. BUT it wouldn't work!!! Nothing went right today! Why did You do that?

God: Let me see, the death angel was at your bed this morning & I had to send one
of My Angels to battle him for your life. I let you sleep through that

Me (humbled): OH

GOD: I didn't let your car start because there was a drunk driver on your route that would have hit you if you were on the road.

Me: (ashamed)

God: The first person who made your sandwich today was sick & I didn't want you to catch what they have, I knew you couldn't afford to miss work.

Me (embarrassed):Okay

God: Your phone went dead bcuz the person that was calling was going to give false witness about what you said on that call, I didn't even let you talk to them so you would be covered.

Me (softly): I see God

God: Oh and that foot massager, it had a shortage that was going to throw out all of the power in your house tonight. I didn't think you wanted to be in the dark.

Me: I'm Sorry God

God: Don't be sorry, just learn to Trust Me.... in All things , the Good & the bad.

Me: I will trust You.

God: And don't doubt that My plan for your day is Always Better than your plan.

Me: I won't God. And let me just tell you God, Thank You for Everything today.

God: You're welcome child. It was just another day being your God and I Love looking after My Children...

Everyone is chained to time. Its February now and see i am talking about time and my graduation college is about to over. What !!!!!!! it seems like i just started my college and its over now. :'(
And i thought i should write a poem-(my first poem) and its very good idea instead of wasting time on social networking site.

  • And I'll Remember You Forever

Dear college, Good Bye,
good – bye.
We must leave you, good - bye.

Our thoughts of you are
now much fonder,
Since we can stay with
you no longer.

Tender thoughts for those who taught us,   :p
And of the joys and woes you brought us.

A fond farewell i give to you.
Tho' miles away, i'll not forget you.

The time has come; we must depart
From this college so near our heart ,

Now the boat of the World,
We're ready to row.

And to My dear friends to you I bid goodbye,
To the friendship that brought me sky.

If by chance we meet again,
May it be full of blessings in the rain .

Life is ahead -So good-bye, dear college, good-bye !!!

His birthday, 2 October, is commemorated in India as Gandhi Jayanti, a national holiday, and worldwide as the International Day of Non-Violence.

Mahatma Gandhi's life achievement stands unique in political history. He has invented a completely new and humane means for the liberation war of an oppressed country, and practised it with greatest energy and devotion. The moral influence he had on the consciously thinking human being of the entire civilized world will probably be much more lasting than it seems in our time with its overestimation of brutal violent forces. Because lasting will only be the work of such statesmen who wake up and strengthen the moral power of their people through their example and educational works. We may all be happy and grateful that destiny gifted us with such an enlightened contemporary, a role model for the generations to come.
Time magazine named Gandhi the Man of the Year in 1930. Gandhi was also the runner-up to Albert Einstein as "Person of the Century "at the end of 1999. Einstein said of Gandhi:
Time Magazine named The 14th Dalai Lama, Lech Wałęsa, Martin Luther King, Cesar Chavez, Aung San Suu Kyi, Benigno Aquino, Jr., Desmond Tutu, and Nelson Mandela as Children of Gandhi and his spiritual heirs to non-violence. The Government of India awards the annual Gandhi Peace Prize to distinguished social workers, world leaders and citizens. Nelson Mandela, the leader of South Africa's struggle to eradicate racial discrimination and segregation, is a prominent non-Indian recipient. In 2011, Time magazine named Gandhi as one of the top 25 political icons of all time.
Gandhi never received the Nobel Peace Prize, although he was nominated five times between 1937 and 1948, including the first-ever nomination by theAmerican Friends Service Committee, though he made the short list only twice, in 1937 and 1947. Decades later, the Nobel Committee publicly declared its regret for the omission, and admitted to deeply divided nationalistic opinion denying the award. Gandhi was nominated in 1948 but was assassinated before nominations closed. That year, the committee chose not to award the peace prize stating that "there was no suitable living candidate" and later research shows that the possibility of awarding the prize posthumously to Gandhi was discussed and that the reference to no suitable living candidate was to Gandhi. When the 14th Dalai Lama was awarded the Prize in 1989, the chairman of the committee said that this was "in part a tribute to the memory of Mahatma Gandhi.
