Lesson for Bollywood celebrities

Mega sporting events such as the Olympics or the Commonwealth Games are a matter of prestige for host nations. This is precisely why the  British celebrities  performed at the ceremony of the  2012 London Olympics for just a symbolic 1.57 $ each is truly commendable.

Paul McCartney got paid around 85 INR for opening the 2012 London Olympics.

Mike Oldfield, Dizzee Rascal and Emeli Sande, also received the nominal fee.

They have all chosen to put their country before their personal gain.

This is in stark contrast to Bollywood celebrities, who can demand enormous sums of money to perform at events of national importance for India.

Bollywood stars demanded a whopping Rs 40 crore for an 11-minute performance at the Melbourne handing over ceremony of the Commonwealth Games was greedy and vulgar.

Rahman charged Rs. 50million (5 crore) for composing the anthem for the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games
While celebrities have every right to demand their due at regular events, there`s a strong case for making an exception where the nation`s image is at stake
